LISTEN TO DANNY SMART:

10/12/2024 - Hailing from Barnsley, England, Danny Smart is a country rock artist now calling Hamilton, Ontario home where he is also a producer/engineer at Halo Studios.

Danny is a breath of fresh air when it comes to work ethic. His devotion to his craft and messaging is admiral. I've had the pleasure of traveling with him, working in the studio with him, and hoisting pints at the pub with him. I've affectionately started to call him Danny Uk. Which I think is cooler than his real name (Just kidding).

His curiosity and humility is humbling when learning how proficient he is on whatever task he applies himself to.

A true creator in every sense of the word.

Danny Smart hosts the Tones of The Hammer Podcast

This past year, Danny launched his own podcast called Tones Of The Hammer which is recorded and filmed at Halo Studios Hamilton, and features different musicians and producers from the Hamilton area he admires.

The success of The Tones of The Hammer Podcast lead to the announcement of Danny's latest endeavour, Halo Live Sessions

Danny describes Halo Live Sessions as "Hamilton's own Tiny Desk Concert Series". The first edition will feature a live recorded set (in front of an audience) of Hamilton indie rockers Lost Faculty on December 28th

Danny is also playing December 22nd at The Dickens Pub as part of a Singer/Songwriter showcase hosted by Brandon Pascoa of Sessions. Travis Miles of The Penske File and Ashley Sloggett will also be performing.

Tickets to both events can be purchased by clicking the images below.

We're thrilled that Danny took the time to answer Five Questions for our Fannablog.

FIVE QUESTIONS WITH COUNTRY MUSIC'S NEWEST IMPORT DANNY SMART

WHEN AND WHERE DID YOUR LOVE OF MUSIC FORM?

I fell in love with the music of Johnny Cash after hearing ‘I Walk The Line’ in a school play. His songwriting, storytelling and voice just totally got me hooked on him and Country music from far away in suburban England.

This kinda snowballed into a whole musical discovery of artists like Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, The Stones and just on and on.

WHAT WAS THE FIRST CONCERT YOU WENT TO?

My first concert was R.E.M at Sheffield Arena in England. I’d never seen so many people in my life ha.

Unfortunately Mike Stipe and Pete Buck came out and played one song and had to reschedule the whole show ‘cause the bass player Mike Mills was ill!

The reschedule ended up being great tho!

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST “BIG SHOW”? OR YOUR FIRST SHOW EVER?

My first big show in terms of the artist’s rep was back in around 2018 when I supported Charlie Worsham on his UK Tour. It was a low key tour but he’s such a talent and has even won a CMA this year!

My first big show for me wasn’t necessarily big in terms of size but my first ever EP launch was pretty great. Celebrating this little piece of art I made and performing it to a great room was very cool indeed!

WHAT WAS YOUR WORST SHOW OR FUNNIEST SHOW MEMORY?

There’s been so many shows it’s real hard to pin down the worst! I remember back when I was playing my originals with my band in the UK and we booked with a great band on their UK Tour. We showed up and not even 1 person showed up (not at all to the band’s fault) but the promoter just really missed the mark with venue, promo and all that stuff! But I kinda take every show as a blessing these days, even the bad ones!

 WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU?

I’m currently working on my interviews and live shows with Tones Of The Hammer as well as making some great music with artists and producers down at Halo Studios, Hamilton. I’m also looking to get over what I like to call ‘demo-itis’ and get releasing some music that’s been wasting away on my hard drive for way too long!
