Since 2016, The Good Depression has been a staple of the Hamilton Music Scene. They have been slowly carving out their own path using their unique mixture of punk/metal/hardcore roots.

Their electric presence on stage is definitely not one to miss, whether it's touring the country, or sharing the stage with bands such as Cancer Bats, Protest the Hero, Comeback Kid and Stray from the Path. The Good Depression do not disappoint.

Their latest release "Oxblood" has been a labour of love for the band which they are excited to see how this latest offering resonates with their audience.

FIVE QUESTIONS WITH DYLAN MCDONNELL OF THE GOOD DEPRESSION

WHICH MEMBER OF THE BAND ARE WE TALKING TO?

Hey, I’m Dylan McDonnell. Vocalist of The GoodDepression.

WHEN AND WHERE DID YOUR LOVE OF MUSIC FORM?

Since I was a kid, rock music was always something I loved. Growing up, my mom was always listening to the radio and I was always fantasizing about being on the radio. It actually wasn’t until hearing Accidents by Alexisonfire did I finally unlock the love for screaming based-anything.”

WHAT WAS THE FIRST CONCERT YOU WENT TO?

My first heavy show was - The Acacia Strain, For the Fallen Dreams, and Incendiary. It was an absolute wall to wall banger.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST “BIG SHOW”? OR YOUR FIRST SHOW EVER?

If we’re talking my first big show, playing in a band. Opening for Stray from the Path and Comeback Kid at Club Absinthe in Hamilton. Back when Hamiltons scene was immaculate, and bigger bands would pack smaller venues. Playing to kids who weren’t just looking to punch their neighbour because their daddies forgot their allowance.

WHAT WAS YOUR WORST SHOW OR FUNNIEST SHOW MEMORY?

My worst show memory would have to be playing a flooded basement in London ON. It was a huge band bill, and all bands were playing in a gross, decommissioned house. There was a literal tub filled with brown water beside the stage area. I got really sick for two weeks, but definitely one for the books.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOUR BAND?

More music, more shows, more chaos. Now that “OXBLOOD” is released. We’re setting our eyes on new places to play, farther away from our main circuit. Also, July 19th we will be playing KOI in Hamilton. It’s our album release show with some killer bands.
