About Joey CXP
Quote taken from The Jersey Sound
"He may be from Hillsborough Township in Somerset County but Joey CXP is part of a bustling New Brunswick music scene that seems to be gaining momentum. He’s the flagship artist of Candy Shop Records and his new Candy Crush EP pulls no punches. It’s a gut-punch of delicious proportions. Call him pop, emo, punk, whatever you want, but he comes complete with modern trap beats, flair, attitude and balls. His 2021 “Star Gazer” single certainly showed the promise. He’s since had over 400,000 streams of “Scars,” “Sour Patch Kid” “Romantic Suicide,” “Braindead,” “Last Time” and won a ton of new fans. His obvious Green Day influence may be one reason kids are picking up on him. Opening for Dashboard Confessional at the Stone Pony didn’t hurt. Neither did his appearance on The Sounds Won’t Stop You Volume #1 compilation and the “Pop, Punk & Pizza” podcast where he displayed his ebullient personality. A multi-instrumentalist composer, he jams with bassist Mario Catalano and drummer Dylan Hain in his home studio. They’ve had over a hundred gigs, most notably at the New Jersey Corn, Beer & Tomato Festival in Flemington for 1,000+. And he’s big in Boston. His new single with Walk On Mars is “Resuscitate.”"

Five questions with Joey Caponegro of New Jersey's Joey CXP
WHEN AND WHERE DID YOUR LOVE OF MUSIC FORM?
It started way before I even picked up a guitar or started singing. I was obsessed with music on the radio, and the idea of performing. When I was 3, I had this mini first act drum kit I would bang on all day long, and a toy guitar I’d sit there and strum on, just trying to emulate what I heard through the radio. That love turned into the passion I have after learning to play my instruments and progressing as a musician.
WHAT WAS THE FIRST CONCERT YOU WENT TO?
Smash Mouth
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST “BIG SHOW”? OR YOUR FIRST SHOW EVER?
Freshman year of high school at a high school unplugged was the first time I got to perform in front of a whole crowd of strangers
WHAT WAS YOUR WORST SHOW OR FUNNIEST SHOW MEMORY?
Probably battle of the bands senior year of high school. I convinced my buddy Brendan who was on vocals to come running down the aisle as me and the other guitarist started the intro song. He came running down the aisle and started leaping across the stage. We were a metal band and we thought it'd be super badass. Now when I watch the video back, it was the most ridiculous thing ever and it cracks me up every time I see it.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOUR BAND?
Canadian Co-Headline tour with Slackin Idle
Montreal May 16th - Singh’s Arcade
Hamilton, ON May 17th - Vertagogo
Toronto, ON May 18th - The Baby G
