TISH 2025: MEET FILMMAKER /ANIMATOR PAT YANEY, CREATOR OF CUT SICK
Pat Yaney once worked in the video game industry and has subsequently made a smattering of animated short films as well as one feature length film mostly all alone. He tries to make things with as much reckless abandon as possible, things that feel like they NEED to be made or manifested. Frequently listening to Angelspit while working on earlier projects, he HAD to put this video together when Angelspit said Cut Sick could be used.
TISH 2025: MEET FILMMAKER /ANIMATOR PAT YANEY, CREATOR OF CUT SICK
What made you fall in love with film?
I love films with stylized worlds or different realities. New realities or highly stylized versions of the mundane world are uniquely visually created by video mediums. If your target reality is strange or stylized enough, you might as well animate it!
What was the first film you saw in a theatre?
The first film I recall seeing in a theater featured Herbie the Love Bug. Not sure which one, as some predate my existence.
What do you love about the collaborative process of independent filmmaking and film festivals?
I almost always work alone doing all aspects of the projects. This film is a rare collaboration for me. In this case the collaborative process was, “How's this?”, then “That's cool!”. No great story, but no drama either. Follow @sobatoons and then go buy some @angelspit merch and I'll call this a success!! :)
Film Festivals have a vast spectrum of vibes. Some can be incredibly inspiring experiences if one can resonate with what they are trying to do and with the other filmmakers present.
As a filmmaker, what lengths have you gone to achieve getting a shot, delivering a performance, or producing a scene?
I once went just short of 4 full days with no sleep at all to meet a deadline, resulting in mini-madness, which I'm told (by the voices) has since subsided.
What's next for you as a filmmaker?
At a recent film festival I was bulldozed by love and rainbows. This very much changed my current project. All my projects (including Cut Sick: Product Dreams) are transcendence-related if you look hard enough, mostly through symbolic consciousness dissection with no fear of darkness. What I'm working on now is a different route to the same theme. It uses the existing universe from Silky's Tabernacle (another Sobatoons film) but is extra silly, and 100% made to SHINE!
