5 QUESTIONS WITH DAVEY KNIGHT OF DEBT CEMETARY
WHICH MEMBER OF THE BAND ARE WE TALKING TO?
Davey Knight - I play bass and sing lead vocals in Debt Cemetary. Shoutout to my band mates/best buds - Eddie Knowlton, Nick MacDougall and Bill Morton!!
WHEN AND WHERE DID YOUR LOVE OF MUSIC FORM?
As a young kid I always loved music but even up until my early teenage years, I had no real concept of what it meant to me when I enjoyed a song or heard a band I liked. I would typically just consume whatever was in front of me, mostly just whatever my friends were listening to.
Then at the ripe age of 14, I found myself at my first local punk show in Burlington and it all clicked. I found my scene, my community and clearly the type of music that I had been unknowingly searching for all those years.
WHAT WAS THE FIRST CONCERT YOU WENT TO?
July 1998 - I was 12 years old and won a pair of tickets to the first ever outdoor Intimate & Interactive featuring The Smashing Pumpkins. My parents agreed to drive my buddy and I, from Burlington to Toronto, but we had to leave at 10pm. Sharp. It was spitting rain and as a result, the Pumpkins wouldn't come out until it stopped.
10pm hits and my buddy Marc and I pathetically slumped through the crowd, exited the gates, and heard a blast of guitars and a crowd going absolutely insane.
So technically my first concert was The Smashing Pumpkins. But in reality it was The Tragically Hip, a year later.
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST “BIG SHOW”? OR YOUR FIRST SHOW EVER?
I forget the actual first local show I went to, but I definitely know that once I got the taste for shows, I went to pretty much every one that I could.
The first bands I can remember seeing were The Binge, Two Face, The Petit Project, Always Outnumbered, Kept With Honor, and Simpleton. What a fucking scene!!
WHAT WAS YOUR WORST SHOW OR FUNNIEST SHOW MEMORY?
Funniest show memory is pretty much anything Ben Rispin said or did at any given show.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOUR BAND?
We've been working on our first full length album, and hope to release it in the Spring of 2025! Until then, we've got a wicked run of shows in November, and one in December to end the year for us.
