STOMP RECORDS BOIDS HIT THE ROAD IN SUPPORT OF THEIR NEW SELF TITLED FULL LENGTH ALBUM WITH STOPS IN HAMILTON AND TORONTO

Montreal Punk Rockers BOIDS have been making a name in the North American punk scene since 2011. It's rare any band can build loyal following of fans and also become a band's band simultaneously. With their latest self titled release on Stomp Records the bands momentum is stronger than ever. We're thrilled that they took the time to answer Five Questions for our Fannablog. Stay tuned for our review of BOIDS self titled full length coming next week and get your tickets to their Hamilton (July 13th at Vertagogo) and Toronto (July 11th at Bovine Sex Club) release shows. BIO:

Formed back in 2011, BOIDS are currently a 3-piece comprised of Mike Gasselsdorfer (drums), Andy McAdam on (bass/vocals) and Patrizio McLelland on(guitar/vocals). Originally a four piece, they surrendered their second guitarist Dennis Lee to higher education at UofT in 2016 after releasing two full length albums “We Stalk Each Other Like Animals”, and “Superbafrango” with Stomp Records in Montréal.

As a trio they streamlined their songwriting process and over the next four years released the self-released Drug Bag EP along with full-length Quel Drag (produced by Tom Thacker of Sum 41/Gob), as well as the self-produced digital EP Disassociation.

Unfortunately the release of Quel Drag in February of 2020 fell on the eve of the thing…you know… that thing that happened. Since not much else was going on, Boids hunkered down in a storage bunker behind a boiler room in the basement of a building in downtown Montréal and jammed, learned some covers then began writing what would be their next and most current release BOIDS. Yes it’s self titled, nice.

FIVE QUESTIONS WITH MIKE G OF BOIDS

five questions with mke g of boidsMike G of Boids

WHEN AND WHERE DID YOUR LOVE OF MUSIC FORM?

My love for music ? Great question! I'm not exactly sure. A bit of a mystery really... but safe to say the radio in my moms kitchen and my dads guitar around the campfire had an influence.

WHAT WAS THE FIRST CONCERT YOU WENT TO?

First concert! Oh baby! Metallica ,Guns n’ Roses , August 8th 1992 Olympic Stadium Montreal. James got burnt by pyro, Axl cut his set short and the famous Riot ensued. At thirteen years old I was like. "What the hell is going on here?”. Crazy.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST “BIG SHOW”? OR YOUR FIRST SHOW EVER?

My first big show? Oh yeah, around 2000? 2001? Drumming for General Rudie. We played a show at the Reverb in Toronto for A.R.A (anti racist action) that also featured a King Apparatus reunion. What a great night! My first big SKA show! I was like “I’m not sure why everyone’s jogging in place but I like it "

WHAT WAS YOUR WORST SHOW OR FUNNIEST SHOW MEMORY?

So many funny things over the years. One that always makes me laugh... it’s not even a show but a soundcheck in the middle of the afternoon in Golden B.C. There was this trucker dude sipping a beer while giving me the middle finger. When we stopped playing he said “ This isn’t fucking bluegrass!”.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOUR BAND?

We love to hang out and create and we also love to play. So a nice blend of those good things
