FIVE QUESTIONS WITH VANCOUVER'S ALIEN BOYS

Vancouver DIY Punk Band Alien Boys answers five questions for the Fannatickets' Fannablog. Catch them on tour across Canada.

WHEN AND WHERE WAS ALIEN BOYS FORMED?

ALIEN BOYS: Lindsay and Alex started playing together in Vancouver in 2015. I don't think they really expected it to go anywhere at the time, but they asked our friend Megan to play bass and welcomed me (Sarinn) to come and sing. I was mainly doing slam poetry at the time, and being part of a band with people I loved to make music collaboratively just felt right. Those early jams gave us a really supportive learning environment to try new things and grow as musicians.

After playing with Rebel Spell for 12 years, Erin came into the picture after Todd Serious died. She was looking for something to do and thought we were cool enough to drink beers and hangout with. We felt honoured as hell to have her around. Everything clicked. Now here we are.

WHAT WAS THE FIRST CONCERT YOU WENT TO?

Erin: Sex Pistols reunion tour at 16.

Lindsay: I couldn't tell you which show was my first of more local or all ages shows, but I saw Bad Religion when I was 16.

Sarinn: Matthew Goodband at 14. I got pulled up on stage after crowd surfing and must have looked like a deer in those bright lights, but I knew I wanted to find a way to be there too - again and again and again.

Ivana: All American Rejects in highschool.

Alex: Nelly Furtato at 16. My sibling (Sophia) and I went to see her in Victoria, BC.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST “BIG SHOW”?

ALIEN BOYS: We had the total privilege of playing with Propagandhi and our pals in Woolworm at the Rickshaw on October 2, 2021. Massive show. It got put on hold for a year due to COVID. There was a lot of built up energy at that gig!

WHAT WAS YOUR WORST SHOW OR FUNNIEST SHOW MEMORY?

ALIEN BOYS: The funniest place we have ever played was this bar/laundromat combo in Columbus, Ohio - Dirty Dungarees. The rowdiest crowd member was a very enthusiastic toddler ripping up the dancefloor.

 WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOUR BAND?

ALIEN BOYS: Touring the new album, The Weight of It All. We are doing small stretches where we can, and we have the official hometown release show in Vancouver on November 3rd at the Wise Hall. We are playing with our pals Cut Piece,  Disposal, and Freak Dream!
