FIVE QUESTIONS WITH DEATH BY STEREO'S EFREM SCHULZ
WHEN AND WHERE DID YOUR LOVE OF MUSIC FORM?
Probably from buying records at the swap meet when I was a kid. I would pick random records out because of the covers. I used to help out and sweep up and stuff around this spot this guy had who sold bootleg tapes. I would hang at his spot all day. He would let me take a tape or two every week. The swap meet was a fun place to hang out as a kid. My Dad used to sell shit there so I was always hanging out.
WHAT WAS THE FIRST CONCERT YOU WENT TO?
The Beach Boys at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas! My family was in Vegas. Me and my dad were walking through the lobby of the casino we were staying at. Then the fire alarm goes off. My dad grabbed me and ran to the elevator. Security stopped us says that it’s a false alarm. So he hands my dad a coin for the slot machine and says sorry for the inconvenience. My dad popped it in and we won a bunch of money! He immediately went and got us tickets for The Beach Boys. It was epic.

WHAT WAS YOUR YOUR FIRST SHOW EVER?
My first Punk show was seeing the Vandals in a parking lot at a skate demo in the late 80’s. They were fucking so killer. It was insane. I just wanted more.
WHAT WAS YOUR WORST SHOW OR FUNNIEST SHOW MEMORY?
Here’s the funniest show moment. A TV show moment. When we played as Coolio’s back up band for an MTV show called “Flipped”. It was a couple of the weirdest days of our lives. We played basketball with Coolio, smoked weed. We watched him shoplift a VHS tape from the record store. We drank tall boys in brown bags walking around Hollywood with him. We ate a nice restaurants. It was so tight. That show was bizarre AF.
Rapper Coolio tragically passed away in 2023
WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOUR BAND?
Hawaii for 2 shows! Working on some new tunes. we are figuring out our touring plans for next year as we speak. Hoping to get out to western Canada asap! We have some overseas stuff in the works for April but I’m not allowed to say. We'll be in Eastern Canada in September.
