Now entering its eighth year of screening incredible independent international and domestic genre pictures, The Toronto International Spring of Horror & Fantasy Film Festival (also known as TISH) will be hitting The Revue Cinema on April 4-6 with one of its most diverse and creative showcases thus far.

THE STORY OF THE TORONTO INT'L SPRING OF HORROR & FANTASY FILM FESTIVAL

Many full moons ago, Niagara College Film Students Lari Teräs and Jonathan Lewis set out to create an independent film festival experience like no other.

The pair began reaching out to independent filmmakers across the globe with hopes of screening music videos, short films and full-length feature films at the Carlton Cinemas in downtown Toronto.

A roll of the dice that would turn into a fascinating artistic journey that has led them down a communal path attracting submissions from hundreds of amazing producers and directors.

As more entries piled in so did some fascinating star power with films featuring performances from B-Movie Icons Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator), Ry Barrett  (Tromeo & Juliet), Alissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp) and Linnea Quigley (Return of the Living Dead) and even popular erotic film stars Lizzy Borden and Beverly Lynn.

TISH also draws higher profile genre  actors such as  Maika Monroe (It Follows, Long Legs) Lance Henriksen (Aliens, The Terminator) Dina Meyer ( SAW, American Horror Story), and Billy Boyd  (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy)

Music is a very important part of this festival as well. Recognizing that fans of horror films and music  walk hand in hand, TISH has featured an array of incredible music videos from award winning San Francisco groove rockers The Oh-Sees, Toronto alien funk masters Martian Crisis Unit, Denmark hip hop sensations Crooks, Toronto horror punks Blood Opera, the insanely talented Edweird, and many more bands in genres ranging from synth pop to punk rock to folk to doom metal.

Over the years a vast amount of incredible local crews have contributed their mind-blowing talents to films ranging from make up effects companies The Butcher Shop (last year’s award winning Fat Camp, Insect),  Reel Twisted FX (Greed and Gore, The Acrylic), Blood Opera, Inc, Toronto producers and directors Michael Pereira (Beyond the Chamber of Terror, Zandavi Lives), Mike McMurran (Secret Santa, The Final Ride) and Kyle Hytonen (Infirmity) to name a few.

The week-end also kicks off with an opening ceremonies party and wraps with an awards show where the Cleaver Awards are given out to the best films and music videos of the festival. It wouldn’t be a Toronto based horror film festival without a homicidal beaver to go home with now would it?
