WEEKLY FEATURED ARTIST: HAMILTON'S DAMMIT GOLDIE

By Ben Rispin (07/09/2024)

HAMILTON'S DAMMIT GOLDIE ARE A REALLY GOOD BAND

One of the nice things about working here at Fannatickets.com is it allows me to stay in touch with the local bands around town and the province. I live in Hamilton which has long been a hot bed for talent in a variety of genres. You wouldn't think that Caribou, The Arkells, Monster Truck, Alexisonfire or Walk Off The Earth would have anything in common, except for the most part, they came from or ended up being a part of the Hamilton music community.

Post Covid, much of the DIY music community struggled to find its footing and still is. The loss of venues, bands, combined with the entire planet losing our collective sanity is still having an effect on the arts.

That's why when my friend and frequent collaborator Jesse Bye of Pound Promotions told me about this band that not only wanted to play our winter Christmas Party Past Presents Future, I was shocked that they also volunteered to help with the door, stage, gear or whatever we needed.

When I asked, "Why?" Jesse told me that they wanted to learn how everything worked, so they could learn to be self sufficient.

Having been a DIY promoter for most of my life, this warmed my heart. I was also pleased when they didn't suck. They're actually a really good band. What they lack in experience they make up for in sincerity. When the band performs they feel like they all know what it is they're trying to make. Which seems like it would be an obvious thing for a band to know, but its actually quite rare.

They're tight, organized, on time, professional, and a lot of fun to watch. That's why they're this week's featured band.

If you're into supporting local bands in Hamilton, Ontario, you could do a lot worse than Dammit Goldie, event if they aren't your thing.

Don't miss them Saturday December 13th at Vertagogo with BOIDS and School Damage.

DAMMIT GOLDIE BIO:
Formed by a group of roommates in Hamilton’s West Dale community, Dammit Goldie is part of a wave of artists who hit the ground running in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With punk vocals as strong and earthy as a lion’s roar, nostalgic grunge riffs and a theoretical foundation that rivals legendary math rock bands, Dammit Goldie delivers a rock fusion sound that is equal parts innovative and familiar.

WHY YOU SHOULD CARE:
"ALTHOUGH DAMMIT GOLDIE HAVE UNDENIABLY PUNK ETHOS AND PLAY A TON OF LOCAL PUNK SHOWS, THEIR SOUND WOULD BE HARD TO CLASSIFY AS PUNK FROM ANY SPECIFIC ERA ...IF ANYTHING, THEY SOUND LIKE THEY SONICALLY STUMBLED UPON SOUNDING LIKE AN EMO INFLUENCED, MODERN-DAY, MANIC STREET PREACHERS... AND THAT'S A GOOD THING. "
